About
A quiet voice and an old book.
Slow Books for Sleep is a weekly podcast of slow, plain-voiced readings of old public-domain books — the kind no one really needs to finish. Mail-order catalogs, dusty manuals, forgotten volumes pulled off a high shelf. We read them slowly, plainly, at the pace of someone reading aloud in a quiet room.
There are no character voices, no music, and nothing dramatic. The point is not the story. The point is the steady, unhurried voice — something to rest your attention on while you drift off. Nothing happens, slowly.
The readings are narrated by Joan Pearce. Put one on, make yourself comfortable, and let an old book do the rest.
Slow Books for Sleep is part of the same small workshop as Sleepbound — a sister network of quiet podcasts for sleep.
Good night.
